A CRAZY, CLEVER COMEDY
comes to the CLO Cabaret!
The Pittsburgh Premiere of Murder For Two Opens October 22

Pittsburgh, PA • July 15, 2014 – Pittsburgh CLO is pleased to announce the Pittsburgh Premiere of the Off-Broadway sensation Murder For Two, October 22-January 18 at the CLO Cabaret.  Everyone is a suspect in this exciting production where classic musical comedy meets Agatha Christie.  In this witty and winking musical homage to old-fashioned murder mysteries, TWO performers play THIRTEEN ROLES — not to mention the piano.  Murder For Two is the perfect blend of music, mayhem and murder!

More about the Mystery…

Officer Marcus Moscowicz is a small town policeman with dreams of making it to detective. One fateful night, shots ring out at the surprise birthday party of Great American Novelist Arthur Whitney and the writer is killed…fatally. With the nearest detective an hour away, Marcus jumps at the chance to prove his sleuthing skills—with the help of his silent partner, Lou.  But whodunit?  Did Dahlia Whitney, Arthur’s scene-stealing wife, give him a big finish?  Is Barrette Lewis, the prima ballerina, the prime suspect?  Did Dr. Griff, the overly-friendly psychiatrist, make a frenemy?   Marcus has only a short amount of time to find the killer and make his name before the real detective arrives…and the ice cream melts!

“INGENIOUS! A SNAZZY double-act!” by The New York Times and a “HILARIOUS musical whodunit” by the New York Observer.  It is a “A MUST-SEE 90-minute jolt of CAFFEINATED CREATIVITY,” according to NY 1-TV.

Murder For Two was developed at Adirondack Theatre Festival and 42nd Street Moon. Chicago Shakespeare Theater presented the World Premiere Production in May, 2011, which was extended four times and ran for more than six months. Murder For Two opened at Second Stage Theatre’s uptown home, the McGinn/Cazale Theatre, in July, 2013. It was extended twice due to popular demand. The Second Stage production transferred to New World Stages in 2013.

About the Creative Team
Murder For Two is the creation of the talented writing team of Joe Kinosian (music and book) and Kellen Blair (lyrics and book), who first met in the BMI Musical Theatre Writing Workshop, where they're currently Advanced Members. Kinosian and Blair’s song "If He Knew Me" recently had its Broadway debut at the 2013 Theatre World Awards. They're proud members of ASCAP and recipients of the 2013 ASCAP Foundation Mary Rodgers / Lorenz Hart Award. Their work has also been showcased at the York Theater's 2012 NEO concert, Adirondack Theater Festival's Second Act Cabaret, The Kennedy Center's "Broadway Today and Tomorrow" series, the Kauffman Center's "Bound for Broadway" concert, and a November 2012 New York Theatre Barn Concert.  Their past work includes Pirates Don't Change Diapers for TheatreWorks USA and two Christmas songs for the 2009 and 2010 Lincoln Center Annual Holiday Songbooks. They also took part in the 2010 Johnny Mercer Songwriting Project, where their song, "You're Mine Until," was selected to be part of a gala concert honoring Stephen Schwartz. They received a 2011 Joseph Jefferson Award for Best New Musical for Murder For Two. Currently, Kinosian and Blair are in development on several new musicals, including The More Things Change, a backstage musical comedy about two middle-aged actors battling to set the record straight about their shaky romantic past.

Pittsburgh Public Theater Presents

Freud’s Last Session

On the eve of war, a battle of faith ignites between Sigmund Freud and C.S. Lewis in Mark St. Germain’s award-winning new play.

PITTSBURGH (February 10, 2012) Pittsburgh Public Theater is proud to present the Pittsburgh premiere of Freud’s Last Session, Mark St. Germain’s new play about an imagined meeting between outspoken atheist Sigmund Freud (David Wohl) and Christian writer C.S. Lewis (Jonathan Crombie). Freud’s Last Session won the 2011 Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best Play. Directed by Mary B. Robinson, it runs March 1 – April 1, 2012 at the O’Reilly Theater, Pittsburgh Public Theater’s home in the heart of Downtown’s Cultural District. For tickets call 412.316.1600 or visit ppt.org.

The play is set on September 3, 1939 in the study of Freud’s London home, where the legendary psychoanalyst is meeting with C.S. Lewis, a young Oxford professor and writer. As they listen to radio bulletins about England going to war, religious views become the main theme of their conversation. Once a skeptic, Lewis now has a profound faith in God, while Freud thinks anyone who believes is suffering from obsessional neurosis. Sometimes shocking, often very funny, always thought-provoking, discussion topics include free will, science, myths, joy, pain, the New Testament, family, and of course, sex. This riveting play delves deeply into the minds, and more surprisingly the hearts, of two rare and brilliant men.

Freud’s Last Session was suggested by The Question of God, a book by Dr. Armand M. Nicholi, Jr. The design team for Pittsburgh Public Theater’s production is Allen Moyer (Scenic & Costumes), Phil Monat (Lighting), and Zach Moore (Sound). Fred Noel is the Production Stage Manager, Adrienne Wells is the Assistant Stage Manager, and casting is by McCorkle Casting, LTD.

About the Playwright

In addition to Freud’s Last Session, Mark St. Germain’s plays include Dr. Ruth, which will premiere this summer at the Barrington Stage Company; Best of Enemies, to be produced in New York next season; The Fabulous Lipitones, a musical comedy co-written with John Markus which will premiere at the Theatrical Outfit in Atlanta in 2013; Camping With Henry and Tom (Lucille Lortel, Outer Critics Circle Awards), Ears On a Beatle, The God Committee, and Out of Gas On Lover’s Leap. With composer Randy Courts Mark he wrote the musicals The Gifts of the Magi, Jack’s Holiday, and Johnny Pye. He also wrote the Tammy Wynette musical Stand By Your Man for the Ryman Theater in Nashville. Television work includes writer and creative consultant for “The Cosby Show”.

Patrick Combs to Perform Man 1, Bank 0 at The Cabaret at Theater Square

September 30th, 2010

PITTSBURGH – Patrick Combs tells the amazing-but-true story of how he deposited a $95,093.35 junk-mail check marked ‘non-negotiable’ – hoping to spread a little banking cheer to tellers - and how it erupted into a staggering and funny David vs Goliath-like adventure that still continues today if you count his internationally touring, award winning, off-Broadway one-man show entitled, Man 1, Bank 0.

What happens after the bank cashes the ridiculous check? To name only a few things: angry banking officers threatening “jail time” and “death”; the nation’s leading authority on banking coming out of retirement; astonishing legal twists; and worldwide media coverage (including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Good Morning America and calls from Letterman & Leno).

The show sold out in New York during its off-Broadway run at the Lambs Theatre in the heart of Times Square. It also sold out at HBO’s 2004 U.S. Comedy Arts Festival held in Aspen; sold out its six show run and garnered “Critic’s Choice” at the Spoleto Festival in Charleston; sold out its 10 show run in Winnipeg where it created 3 hour ticket lines, hundreds were turned away and it garnered the “Best of Fest” award; sold out the Comedy Central Stage in Los Angeles; won “Best of Fest” at the San Francisco Fringe where it also sold out and was awarded “Best Solo Comedy”; sold out in Auckland where it was an official selection of the New Zealand International Comedy Festival; sold out in Montreal and won the Just For Laughs prize for Best Comedy.

Patrick Combs is a former TV personality for Paramount's hit shows, Real TV and Hard Copy where he was the star of humorous hidden camera segments. He also has appeared on many national shows including Good Morning America and The Late Show. As a solo performer, he has toured continuously for fourteen years, entertaining audiences as large as two thousand people, and in theaters such as the Comedy Central Stage in Hollywood, the Herald Theatre at the Aoeta Centre in Auckland, the King Center for the Performing Arts in Melbourne, Exit Theatre in San Francisco, and the American Theatre in Charleston.

There is one performance scheduled at 10:30 P.M. on Thursday, September 30th, with doors opening at 10:00 P.M. for optional dinner and drink service. Tickets are $16.00 and are available by calling the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust Box Office at 412-456-6666, or online at pgharts.org.

Hi-Res pictures are available directly from the show’s website gallery at www.man1bank0.com.
