Pittsburgh, PA • July 15, 2014 – Pittsburgh CLO is pleased to announce the Pittsburgh Premiere of the Off-Broadway sensation Murder For Two, October 22-January 18 at the CLO Cabaret.  Everyone is a suspect in this exciting production where classic musical comedy meets Agatha Christie.  In this witty and winking musical homage to old-fashioned murder mysteries, TWO performers play THIRTEEN ROLES — not to mention the piano.  Murder For Two is the perfect blend of music, mayhem and murder!

Officer Marcus Moscowicz is a small town policeman with dreams of making it to detective. One fateful night, shots ring out at the surprise birthday party of Great American Novelist Arthur Whitney and the writer is killed…fatally. With the nearest detective an hour away, Marcus jumps at the chance to prove his sleuthing skills—with the help of his silent partner, Lou.  But whodunit?  Did Dahlia Whitney, Arthur’s scene-stealing wife, give him a big finish?  Is Barrette Lewis, the prima ballerina, the prime suspect?  Did Dr. Griff, the overly-friendly psychiatrist, make a frenemy?   Marcus has only a short amount of time to find the killer and make his name before the real detective arrives…and the ice cream melts!

“INGENIOUS! A SNAZZY double-act!” by The New York Times and a “HILARIOUS musical whodunit” by the New York Observer.  It is a “A MUST-SEE 90-minute jolt of CAFFEINATED CREATIVITY,” according to NY 1-TV.


Murder For Two was developed at Adirondack Theatre Festival and 42nd Street Moon. Chicago Shakespeare Theater presented the World Premiere Production in May, 2011, which was extended four times and ran for more than six months. Murder For Two opened at Second Stage Theatre’s uptown home, the McGinn/Cazale Theatre, in July, 2013. It was extended twice due to popular demand. The Second Stage production transferred to New World Stages in 2013.

About the Creative Team
Murder For Two is the creation of the talented writing team of Joe Kinosian (music and book) and Kellen Blair (lyrics and book), who first met in the BMI Musical Theatre Writing Workshop, where they're currently Advanced Members. Kinosian and Blair’s song "If He Knew Me" recently had its Broadway debut at the 2013 Theatre World Awards. They're proud members of ASCAP and recipients of the 2013 ASCAP Foundation Mary Rodgers / Lorenz Hart Award. Their work has also been showcased at the York Theater's 2012 NEO concert, Adirondack Theater Festival's Second Act Cabaret, The Kennedy Center's "Broadway Today and Tomorrow" series, the Kauffman Center's "Bound for Broadway" concert, and a November 2012 New York Theatre Barn Concert.  Their past work includes Pirates Don't Change Diapers for TheatreWorks USA and two Christmas songs for the 2009 and 2010 Lincoln Center Annual Holiday Songbooks. They also took part in the 2010 Johnny Mercer Songwriting Project, where their song, "You're Mine Until," was selected to be part of a gala concert honoring Stephen Schwartz. They received a 2011 Joseph Jefferson Award for Best New Musical for Murder For Two. Currently, Kinosian and Blair are in development on several new musicals, including The More Things Change, a backstage musical comedy about two middle-aged actors battling to set the record straight about their shaky romantic past.

Joining Pittsburgh CLO for the first time to direct is Scott Schwartz, who will return to the director’s chair after directingMurder For Two off-Broadway and in its run at Second Stage Uptown.  On Broadway, he directed Golda’s Balcony andJane Eyre (co-directed with John Caird). His Off-Broadway work includes Bat Boy: The Musical (Lucille Lortel and Outer Critics Circle Awards, Outstanding Off-Broadway Musical; Drama Desk Award nomination, Outstanding Director of a Musical), tick, tick…BOOM! (Outer Critics Circle, Outstanding Off-Broadway Musical; Drama Desk nomination, Outstanding Director of a Musical); Rooms: A Rock Romance; The Foreigner starring Matthew Broderick (Roundabout Theatre Company), Kafka’s The Castle (Outer Critics Circle nomination, Outstanding Director of a Play), and No Way to Treat a Lady. He also directed Golda’s Balcony on tour, in London, in Los Angeles at the Wadsworth Theatre and in San Francisco at American Conservatory Theater.

Mr. Schwartz directed the world premiere of Séance on a Wet Afternoon at Opera Santa Barbara and subsequently at New York City Opera. His other recent credits include the world premiere of Secondhand Lions (5th Avenue Theatre), the world premiere of Theresa Rebeck’s What We’re Up Against (Alley Theatre), Arsenic and Old Lace starring Tovah Feldshuh and Betty Buckley (Dallas Theater Center), Othello and Much Ado About Nothing (Alley Theatre), A Room With A View (Old Globe), and a re-envisioning of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (Paper Mill Playhouse, Theatre Under The Stars, Theatre on the Square and North Shore Music Theatre; 2008 IRNE Award, Outstanding Director of a Musical). He is the Artistic Director of Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor, NY and is a member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, an Associate Artist at the Alley Theatre, and a graduate of Harvard University.

Meet the cast of Ring of Fire
Pittsburgh, PA • March 12, 2014 – Pittsburgh CLO is proud to announce the cast for the rousing musical hit Ring of Fire, which will run May 22 through August 17 at the CLO Cabaret. Cast (In Alphabetical Order)

Jay Hitt is a gifted singer/songwriter and accomplished guitarist who last appeared at the CLO Cabaret in Always…Patsy Cline.  He was voted Best Acoustic Musician by the readers of Pittsburgh City Papertwice.  His song, “Tracy Loves Ray” was named Best Song in the Canadian Narrative Music Contest, where he also received an Honorable Mention for “Through The Window.”  Mr. Hitt is the recipient of Best Song awards on Broadjam.com, Songwriter Universe and Songoftheyear.com. With the release of his seventh CD, “Greetings from the Wilderness,” Mr. Hitt continues to “honor his gifts, work at his craft, respect his audience and achieve excellence,” as one reviewer put it.

Paul Koudouris is a graduate of Point Park University’s Conservatory Theatre Program making his Pittsburgh CLO debut.  Regional Theatre: RENT (Roger), All Shook Up (Chad), Chess (Anatoly),Oklahoma! (Curly) and A Night with Janis Joplin (Guitarist/Singer).  Mr. Koudouris has also released an original pop/folk music album which can be found at www.paulkmusic.com.

Mitch Marois just completed his BFA in Musical Theatre at Carnegie Mellon University.  As a member of Theatre Plastique he appeared in Saints!, winning Best Musical at the 2013 New York Fringe Festival.  A native of St. Petersburg, Florida, Mr. Marois has appeared in productions of 4 Saints in 3 Acts, Romeo and Juliet, You Can’t Take it With You and The Wild Party (Lippa) while at CMU.  He also choreographed and assisted on productions of The Drowsy Chaperone, Urinetown! The Musical, Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniera, Once on This Island, The Wild Party and various dance concerts.

Jon Rohlf is a Musical Theatre graduate from Point Park University where he last performed as "Band Leader" in Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson.  Other Point Park credits include “Huck” in Huck Finn and “Floyd” in Dark of the Moon. Other roles include "Antony" in Sweeney Todd and “Kyle" in Legally Blonde The Musical among others.

Nicole Stefonek is a Wisconsin native who holds a BFA in musical theater performance from St. Mary’s University of Winona, MN.  After graduating and performing extensively throughout the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, she moved to New York City where she wrote and performed for numerous Off-Broadway and cabaret venues.  Favorite productions include: The Jamal Lullabies (P.S.122 NYC), What the Folk?!(The Duplex Cabaret), Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding (Minneapolis), The Rocky Horror Show (Minneapolis) andSide Show (St.Paul).

Erika Strasburg is a Carnegie Mellon University graduate making her Pittsburgh CLO Cabaret debut. Other Pittsburgh credits include A Musical Christmas Carol and Pittsburgh CLO’s Gallery of Heroesprogram, Quantum Theatre and City Theatre Company.

Santino Tomasetti is a graduate of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy.  Credits include “Holiday Songbook” at Lincoln Center (writer) and Vietnam at 50 for the New York Historical Society.  Mr. Tomasetti is joining Pittsburgh CLO for the first time.

The Creative Team

Guy Stroman (Director & Choreographer) directed and choreographed Forever Plaid for the inaugural production of the CLO Cabaret.  He also directed and choreographed that show for the fifth anniversary of the theater, as well as Plaid Tidings in 2007 and 2013.  He has directed numerous productions of plays and musicals around the country and in New York, including: Driving Miss Daisy andThe Glass Menagerie, both starring Sandy Duncan, The King and I, starring Lou Diamond Phillips (Best Director Award), Twelfth Night, Loot (Best Production Award), 1776 (Best Director Award), Man of La Mancha (Audience Favorite Award), and Shakespeare’s R&J, to name a few.  Mr. Stroman originated the role of Frankie in the original Forever Plaid in New York, London’s West End, and Los Angeles, where he won the L.A. Drama Critics Award for Best Actor.

Chris “Red” Blisset (Music Director) is joining Pittsburgh CLO for the first time. Other credits include:Stand By Your Man (two national tours – Actor, MD), Ring of Fire (Director, MD, Actor, all over the country), Pump Boys and Dinettes (Director, MD, Actor, all over), Cotton Patch Gospel, The Full Monty, Twelfth Night, Keep on the Sunny Side, Smoke on the Mountain, Plaid Tidings, Honky-Tonk Highwayand Civil War (Actor/Musical Director/Director in various projects). He can be seen coast-to-coast and on YouTube doing stand-up comedy.  He comes from New York City where he is developing the new musicalBasquiat.

Meet the cast of the Judge Jackie Justice – A New Musical Comedy

Maggie Carr (Woman #1) previously worked with the Pittsburgh CLO on last summer’s Kopit & Yeston’s Phantom. Ms. Carr is a Pittsburgh native and graduate (BFA) of Point Park University. Regional theatre credits include A Funny Thing Happened… (Theatre Barn), Suite Surrender (St. Vincent Summer Theatre), Mid-Strut (The REP), The 25th Annual...Spelling Bee (Black and White Theatre Co.), and Sweeney Todd (Carrnivale Theatrics). Film/web:Conversations w/ My Ex (52AND9 Productions), Knuckle Sandwich (dir. Bailey Donovan). Her original play Open House was published last year, and she is a cofounder of Black and White Theatre Co. and Carrnivale Theatrics.

Jason Coll (Henry) returns to Pittsburgh CLO and the CLO Cabaret where he served as the Associate Artistic Director for many years.  Acting credits include shows with Bricolage Theater, Pittsburgh CLO, WV Public, City Theatre, as well as numerous commercials and voiceovers.  Mr. Coll has had six of his musicals produced by Pittsburgh CLO and has written and produced two original television pilots, “WRITE ON!” and “MUNHALL.”  CLO directing credits include A Musical Christmas Carol, The Big Bang and numerous Richard Rodgers Awards.  His company, Frog Prince Creative, produces dynamic events and theatrical productions.  Mr. Coll currently serves as Music Director at St. Sylvester Parish.

Connor McCanlus (Man #1) is making his CLO Cabaret debut. Local credits include Unseam'd Shakespeare (The Complete Works of William Shakespeare [Abridged] and The Tempest, or The Enchanted Isle), Prime Stage Theatre (The Elephant Man and A Wrinkle in Time), Miniature Curiosa, Pittsburgh Playwrights Theater Company, and Pittsburgh Shakespeare in the Parks.  He is an improv comedian and musical improviser at Steel City Improv Theater and Arcade Comedy Theater; his work has been featured in festivals in New York City (UCB, PIT, Magnet) and Chicago (Athenaeum).  Mr. McCanlus is also the co-creator and director of HELLO DONNY: A Showtunes Sing-Along! at Backstage Bar.

Kara Mikula (Judge Jackie) returns to the CLO Cabaret after playing Lita Encore in Ruthless! The Musical.  Her Pittsburgh CLO credits include:  Annie (Sophie/Mrs. Pugh), Fiddler on the Roof, Sunset Boulevard, The Sound of Music (Sister Margaretta), Oliver! (Mrs. Bedwin) and A Musical Christmas Carol.  Other credits:  Grease (Cha-Cha) at The Gateway Theatre; Funny Girl(Mrs. O’Malley) at the Riverside Theatre; The Music Man (Ethel Toffelmier) at KCStarlight; The Boys from Syracuse (Luce) at Surflight Theatre.  Ms. Mikula is a graduate of Point Park University.

Caroline Nicolian (Understudy) was last seen in Side by Side by Sondheim and A Grand Night for Singing at the CLO Cabaret.  A native of Pittsburgh, she has worked for numerous theater companies in the city such as Pittsburgh Musical Theater, Carrnivale Theatrics, and QM Productions. She received her B.F.A. in Musical Theatre from Point Park University and her credits there include Jane Eyre the Musical, Can-Can!, Assassins, and Parade. One of her proudest moments was singing the National Anthem for President Barack Obama.

Quinn Patrick Shannon (Understudy) previously appeared in Plaid Tidings and A Grand Night for Singing at the CLO Cabaret.  You may have also seen him as Wladek in Pittsburgh Irish and Classical Theatre's Our Class. Other regional credits include the Playhouse REP, Pittsburgh Musical Theater, and Theatreworks USA.

Jonathan Visser (Shane) has worked with Bricolage, The City Theater, The REP, PICT, and Pittsburgh CLO as Sylvia St. Croix in Ruthless! The Musical. He is a graduate of the Masters program at the University of Tennessee, 2010. Other regional credits include Dallas Theater Center, Casa Mañana, Clarence Brown Theater, Shakespeare Santa Cruz, Kentucky Shakespeare Festival, Hope Summer Repertory and PCPA.

The Creative Team
Michael Kooman (music) and Christopher Dimond (book & lyrics) are recent recipients of the 2013 Fred Ebb Award.  They previously received the 2010 Jonathan Larson Grant and are the first recipients of the Lorenz Hart Award. Between them, they have received the Burton Lane Award, the Harold Adamson Award, the KC/ACTF Musical Theatre Award, an Anna Sosenko Grant and numerous ASCAP Plus awards.

Their musical Dani Girl has been work-shopped at the Kennedy Center, American Conservatory Theatre, Cherry Lane Theatre, the ASCAP/Disney Musical Theater Workshop, the Festival of New American Musicals, and was featured in the 2011 NAMT Festival of New Musicals. The show has seen recent productions in Toronto, Dallas, Boston, and Australia.

In 2013, their musical Orphie and the Book of Heroes will premiere at the Kennedy Center. Their original musical The Noteworthy Life of Howard Barnes has been part of the O'Neill Music Theater Conference, the Human Race Theatre New Works Festival, and the Village Theatre New Works Festival.

The duo’s other works include Golden Gate (Williamstown Theatre Festival), Homemade Fusion(London’s Ambassadors Theater, Edinburgh Fringe Festival), the family-friendly Christmas musical Junior Claus and the short film “Flour Baby.”

Michael and Chris are proud members of the Dramatists Guild, ASCAP, and the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theater Workshop. They were Dramatists Guild Fellows, received a fellowship at the O’Neill National Music Theater Conference, and attended the Johnny Mercer Songwriting workshop.  Their debut album, “Out of Our Heads,” featuring an all-star lineup of Broadway performers, is now available on iTunes.

Van Kaplan (Director/Pittsburgh CLO Executive Producer) returns to the CLO Cabaret after directing You Say Tomato, I Say Shut Up! in 2012 and Ruthless! The Musical in 2011.  He made his Pittsburgh CLO directing debut in 2002 with Guys and Dolls at the Benedum Center, and has since directed She Loves Me  and West Side Story. He is the director each year for The Jimmy™ Awards at Broadway’s Minskoff Theatre. His other directorial credits include the critically acclaimed production of Kopit and Yeston’s Phantom at North Shore Musical Theater,On the Town, Shear Madness, Sweeney Todd with Candy Buckley, Nunsense starring Jo Anne Worley, Guys and Dolls starring Georgia Engel and South Pacific starring Cathy Rigby. Mr. Kaplan has worked with such celebrities as Betty Buckley, Tony Bennett, Bill Cosby, Natalie Cole, Carol Channing, Jerry Seinfeld, Johnny Mathis and Debbie Reynolds.  As a producer, he has produced the Broadway productions of Evita, The Addams Family, Catch Me If You Can, Come Fly Away, and the upcoming production of An American in Paris as well as over 100 regional theater productions and tours.

Mr. Kaplan has consulted for the National Endowment for the Arts, a former Theatre Panel chair for the Texas Commission on the Arts, and has served as adjunct professor for Carnegie Mellon’s Masters of Arts Management Program. He has been a Tony Awards® voter for over 20 years, is on the Board of The Broadway League, serves on the Investment Committee of the Independent Presenters Network (IPN) and is a past president of The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT), of which Pittsburgh CLO is a founding member.

Kiesha Lalama (Choreographer) has created more than 40 works to date.  Kiesha continues to work towards launching The Bench, Journey Into Love for professional production.  The conceived and choreographed full-length dance theatre production, The Bench received rave reviews and was honored to be named to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette’s "Best of Dance" Top Ten list in both 2009 and 2010.  Other recent choreography highlights include In the Heights, “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” the National High School Musical Theater Awards on Broadway, as featured in the PBS series Broadway or Bust, Shed for DCDC-Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Clairvoyance for Wright State University, All Shook Up for North Shore Music Theatre, Alegria for Giordano Dance Chicago and Torque for the August Wilson Center Dance Ensemble.  Lalama has created works for companies such as Ballet Arkansas, Eisenhower Dance Ensemble, Houston Metropolitan Dance Company, Jazz Dance World Congress, Missouri Contemporary Ballet, the Youth American Grand Prix, Kansas City Starlight Theatre and the film Sorority Row.  In 2009, Ms. Lalama was named one of Dance Magazine's "25 to Watch” and has been awarded a Leo’s Award for choreography at the Jazz Dance World Congress.  The Youth American Grand Prix has twice named Lalama to the coveted "Top 12" and honored her with the Outstanding Choreography Award.
As an educator, Ms. Lalama serves as an Associate Professor in the Point Park University Dance Department and as the Education Director for the Pittsburgh CLO.  Master class and workshop highlights include: Cirque du Soleil, DCDC, Giordano Dance Chicago, Houston Metropolitan Dance Company, Eisenhower Dance Ensemble, numerous universities, and Dance Educators of America.  Ms. Lalama graduated with an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College and has her BA in Dance from Point Park University.  Ms. Lalama is a proud member of SDC.

Michael Moricz (Music Director) has arranged material for John Lithgow, Chita Rivera, Tommy Tune, Linda Lavin, Marvin Hamlisch, Renee Fleming, Ashley Brown, B.E. Taylor, the Nederlander Organization and many others. He has composed original music for the Showtime, Disney, Discovery, Fox and PBS networks; incidental music for the Pittsburgh Public Theater; and arranged and conducted theatrical and special events nationwide, including CLO’s Gene Kelly Awards. Michael is the music director for Broadway’s annual “Jimmy Awards” featured in PBS’s “Broadway or Bust” mini-series. His extensive work with dance includes long associations with ABT, Mark Morris Dance Group, Houston Ballet, PBT and Juilliard. He is especially proud to have been the music director for several seasons of “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” and composed the ID music you hear daily on WQED-TV.

Behold “real” cases involving zombies, spaceships, furries and more!  TV’s hottest Judge relishes in ruling on the personal affairs of people just like you, but what happens when the tables are turned?  You won’t “object” to this brand new musical comedy with book and music by award-winning songwriters Kooman and Dimond, conceived and directed by Van Kaplan.

The Johnny Cash musical, Ring of Fire

Principals must be available beginning May 5, 2014 and continuing through August 17, 2014.
Ring of Fire will run at the CLO Cabaret May 22-August 17, 2014

Who          
Seeking:
Singing actors and actresses of any age (no children)

Need to be proficient playing guitar (acoustic/electric), bass (acoustic), mandolin, banjo, fiddle, harmonica, and/or various percussion.

The play is a narrative, storytelling overview of the life of Johnny Cash using his extensive musical catalogue as the foundation to celebrate his life and career.

Bring your instrument(s) and prepare two contrasting songs. Sides will be provided from the script at the audition as needed.
