Concert series, are pleased to announce Glen Campbell – The Goodbye Tour on Sunday, May 20, 2012, at the Byham Theater, 101 Sixth Street in Downtown Pittsburgh’s Cultural District. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Tickets for Glen Campbell – The Goodbye Tour go on sale Friday, March 2, 2012, at 9 a.m. Opening for Glen Campbell is the band Instant People.
Glen Campbell is a bonafide living legend whose career spans 50 years with fans that cross generational and international lines. A revered triple-decker talent, he is a musician, singer, and humorist. Worldwide, Glen Campbell is considered one of the outstanding guitar musicians of his generation, has one of the most formidable chart histories in country music, and has recorded standards that have stood the test of time, such as “By The Time I Get To Phoenix,” “Gentle On My Mind,” “Galveston,” “Rhinestone Cowboy,” and “Wichita Lineman.” He has released over 70 albums and sold more than 45 million records with 75 trips up the charts, landing 27 times in the Top 10.
Glen’s current album, Ghost On the Canvas, was released in the fall of 2011 on Sundog Records. Simply put, Ghost On the Canvas is the album of Glen Campbell’s life. With beauty, power, heartfelt emotion and deep spirituality, this set of songs traces the arc of Campbell’s 75 years: From dirt-poor, tiny-town Arkansas origins to Hollywood triumphs on the pop charts, TV and movies. From barnstorming days of youthful touring to hobnobbing with Elvis, Sinatra and the Duke. From troubled freefalls of addiction and bad life choices to personal and spiritual redemption. Campbell has said Ghost On the Canvas will be his final album with a glorious, celebratory guitar jam featuring such colleagues and acolytes as Billy Corgan, Brian Setzer, Rick Nielsen, Jason Falkner, Marty Rifkin, Steve Hunter, Tim Pierce and Keith Urban. The album was largely written by Campbell with producer-collaborator Julian Raymond, complemented by contributions from Jakob Dylan, Paul Westerberg, Teddy Thompson and Robert Pollard, with evocative instrumental interludes composed by Roger Manning as musical illustration.
