PSO TO PERFORM JERRY GARCIA’S SYMPHONIC CELEBRATION AT THE MANN CENTER

A Symphonic Celebration of Jerry Garcia’s music at Philadelphia’s outdoor summer venue; Warren Haynes on lead vocals and guitar; presented by Princeton Entertainment

PITTSBURGH – The PSO will be traveling to Philadelphia to collaborate with Warren Haynes, most well-known as the guitarist of The Allman Brothers Band, in the Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration featuring Warren Haynes and Pittsburgh Symphony in Association with Princeton Entertainment at the Mann Center for the Performing Arts located in Fairmount Park.

PSO Assistant Conductor Fawzi Haimor will lead the orchestra, while Haynes lends his famous blend of rock, blues, R&B, and jazz to many of Jerry Garcia’s classic works from his time with the Grateful Dead.  This new symphonic project will be featuring Garcia’s storied original compositions as well as classic interpretations of timeless standards.

The concert will begin at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25 at the Mann Center.  Tickets, ranging in price from $19.50 to $75, can be purchased by calling the TicketPhiladelphia box office at 215-893-1999, or atwww.ticketphiladelphia.org. Jerry Garcia (1942-1995) created an unparalleled legacy across the American landscape, most notably in his role as a founding member, singer, songwriter and lead guitarist of the Grateful Dead.  Garcia’s unmistakable guitar tone enchanted multitudes of “Deadheads” throughout the band’s 30-year career and beyond.  His work with the Jerry Garcia Band, Old and in the Way, Legion of Mary, Garcia/Grisman, and projects with Merl Saunders only scratches at the surface of his musical influences as he set out to master the Great American Songbook.  Unequivocally devoted to the craft of music, Garcia continues to inspire future generations through the body of work he has left behind and his creative spirit.

Warren Haynes is an American rock and blues guitarist, vocalist and songwriter of Gov’t Mule and long time member of The Allman Brothers Band.  Haynes also founded and runs Evil Teen Records and is a member of the Dead.  At 20 years old Haynes got his first break with David Allan Coe’s touring band in 1980.  He then played with the Nighthawks for a few years before his most notable role in The Allman Brothers Band in 1987.  In 2012 The Allman Brothers Band was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.  Haynes released a long-anticipated solo album in 2011 titled Man in Motion and has said he is “interested in recording a singer-songwriter oriented album with more acoustic instruments, a jazzy instrumental CD and a straight-up blues record.”

Fawzi Haimor is the newly appointed Assistant Conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra beginning in the 2012-2013 season. Prior to his Pittsburgh appointment, he was the Assistant Conductor of the Alabama Symphony for two seasons. In Alabama, he conducted a variety of concerts including subscription, pops, education, and outreach.  Additionally, Mr. Haimor had the pleasure to work with numerous orchestras including the Amman Symphony, Jacksonville Symphony, Kansas City Symphony, and Orquestra Sinfonico do Porto and has collaborated with famous artists such as Bela Fleck, Bobby Horton, Diane Schuur, and Luciana Souza.  He has also served as a cover conductor to esteemed conductors including Justin Brown, Marvin Hamlisch, Grant Llewellyn, Michael Morgan, Robert Spano, Stefan Sanderling, and Michael Stern.
