Sandra Bernhard At Byham Theater

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Media Contact:  Diana Roth, (412) 471-8717; roth@trustarts.org

Sandra Bernhard
Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the Byham Theater

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust presents
Sandra Bernhard
Saturday, April 27, 2013, at 8:00 p.m., Byham Theater

Pittsburgh, PA- The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is proud to present the comedian, singer, actress, and author Sandra Bernhard on April 27, 2013 at the Byham Theater.  Bernhard’s performance is a hybrid of standup comedy and rock ‘n roll – a unique mixture of political satire, pop culture commentary and cabaret.  Bernhard’s bitter critiques of celebrity culture have earned her a spot on Comedy Central’s famous “100 Greatest Standups of All Time.” This performance is a part of the 2012-2013 Cohen & Grigsby Trust Presents series.

Sandra Bernhard began her career at L.A.’s famed Comedy Store in the ‘70s, which earned her a supporting role on The Richard Pryor Show in 1977.  Bernhard caught her big break in 1983 when she caught the nation’s attention as the star of Martin Scorsese’s The King of Comedy. Her first one-woman show, the groundbreaking Without You I’m Nothing, ran for 6 months off-Broadway in 1988 and served as inspiration for the film and Grammy-nominated album of the same name.

Bernhard’s extensive resume spans nearly the entire entertainment industry. From 1991-1996 Bernhard played Nancy Bartlett—the first openly gay character on a network sitcom—on Roseanne, and further bolstered her television resume with her work on  The Richard Pryor Show, Law & Order: SVU, The Sopranos, and Ally McBeal. She has appeared more than 30 times on Late Night with David Letterman and has been a regular guest of Howard Stern’s since the early ‘80s.

Additionally, Bernhard’s film credits include Martin Scorsese’s The King of Comedy, for which she was awarded Best Supporting Actress by the National Society of Film Critics, and Nicholas Roeg’s Track 29, Hudson Hawk, Dinner Rush, and Dare. Further bolstering her performance skills, Bernhard has released a number of popular albums and has also sung with or opened for various musical acts, including: The Pretenders, Cyndi Lauper, and the Scissor Sisters.

Her most recent show, I Love Being Me, Don’t You? played to sold-out crowds for an extended run last summer in Los Angeles and the album version of the show was released on Rooftop Records last fall. Bernhard has been touring the show ever since, and the Los Angeles Times wrote, “She has chutzpah to spare, but it’s her articulate intelligence that earns our attention … It’s [her] combination of glamour and accessibility that accounts for Bernhard’s enduring appeal.”

Tickets ($35-$40) for Sandra Bernhard on April 27, 2013 at 8:00 p.m., at the Byham Theater, may be purchased at the Box Office at Theater Square, 655 Penn Avenue, online at trustarts.org, or by calling (412) 456-6666. To purchase 10 or more tickets at special discounted rates, please call (412) 471-6930.

John Pinette

Byham Theater

Friday, February 8, 2013 ● 8:00pm

On Sale Friday, December 21, 2012,  10am

Pittsburgh, PA : John Pinette will present a hilarious evening of stand-up comedy at the Byham Theater on Friday, February 8, 2013 at 8:00pm. Tickets go on-sale Friday, December 21, 2012 at 10am and can be purchased at TrustArts.org, 412.456.6666, or at the Box Office Theater Square. Tickets are $40.25. This is an all ages show.

When describing his own stand-up, Pinette says “I talk about my life; it is the funniest thing I can think of.” His comedy special “Still Hungry” debuted on Comedy Central in 2011. The food-obsessed, storytelling Pinette, delivers smart, original, Bill Cosby-influenced observations on everyday life. “Still Hungry” is a follow-up to his successful “I’m Starvin’!” and “Show Me the Buffet” CD’s and DVD’s.

John Pinette is no rookie to the stage. For the past sixteen years, Pinette has been in entertainment one way or another. Once he realized he could use his knack to make people laugh and turn it into a career, he left his job as an accountant and began touring comedy clubs around the country.

He caught his big break when he was asked to tour with Frank Sinatra and he’s since become a regular guest on The Tonight Show and The View. Most recently, Pinette came off the theatrical stage and to the stand-up stage after wrapping up his starring role as ‘Edna Turnblad’ in the winning Broadway musical Hairspray.

His note-worthy accomplishments include being named Stand-Up Comedian of the Year by the American Comedy Awards in 1999 and he was also nominated for a Gemini Award for his television performance at The Montreal Comedy Festival in 2000.  Pinette’s acting career includes roles alongside Gwenyth Paltrow, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and John Travolta. He is experienced in both film and television and has been featured in programs such as Parker Lewis Can’t Lose and starred as a car-jack victim in the final episode of Seinfeld.  For more information, visit John’s official website www.johnpinette.com.
