WQED's Deborah L. Acklin Elected to Board of Association of Public Television Stations and Board of Public Television Major Market Group



WQED’S DEBORAH ACKLIN ELECTED TO BOARD OF ASSOCIATION OF PUBLIC TELEVISION STATIONS AND BOARD OF PUBLIC TELEVISION MAJOR MARKET GROUP


 PITTSBURGH — Deborah L. Acklin, President and Chief Executive Officer of WQED Multimedia, has been elected to the Board of Trustees of the Association of Public Television Stations (APTS) and to the Board of the Public Television Major Market Group.

 Ms. Acklin has served in multiple executive roles in public broadcasting, the cable television industry and commercial broadcasting. At WQED Multimedia, she manages or has managed the operations, strategies and fundraising to create original multi-platform content distributed across four television channels, three radio signals, an interactive Web-based learning channel, an interactive global media distribution portal, an education department, a publishing division, and PBS, NPR and their member stations.

 Ms. Acklin’s tenure at WQED includes many achievements, including two consecutive Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards for Station Excellence, given by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences to a general manager of a commercial or public television station in Pennsylvania, Delaware, West Virginia and New Jersey. She also helped launch the first public television channel in Bermuda (CTV).

 In addition to Ms. Acklin, the newly-elected APTS trustees are: Mendy Elliott, Chair, KNPB Public Broadcasting, Reno, Nevada; Kliff Kuehl, President and Chief Executive Officer, KCPT, Kansas City, Missouri; Bert Schmidt, President and Chief Executive Officer, WHRO, Norfolk, Virginia; and Gail Mendelson Sterman, Board of Trustees, WJCT, Jacksonville, Florida.

Additionally, Ms. Acklin has been named to the Board of the Public Television Major Market Group, which meets quarterly.

 Public Television Major Market Group, LLC is a leadership organization of full-service PBS stations located in the top 30 U.S. media markets and are particularly interested in building engaged and significant stations in the communities they serve. Their current Community's Agenda initiative aims at building cross-market partnerships with stations and non-profits in three subject areas.
