DOLLAR BANK THREE RIVERS ARTS FESTIVAL ARTIST OPPORTUNITIES
Riverlights Request for Proposals - NEW!
As announced last month, Riverlife, Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) are planning the grand reopening and dedication of the Point State Park fountain on Friday, June 7, 2013. The reopening celebration, called “Riverlights at The Point,” commemorates the conclusion of the $35-million renovation of Point State Park overseen by DCNR, Riverlife and the Allegheny Conference on Community Development. Coinciding with the first night of the Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival, “Riverlights at The Point” is free, open to the public and will include a dedication ceremony, musical entertainment and a special lighting installation throughout the park. Attendees will see the fountain turned back on for the first time since it was shut off for reconstruction in April 2009. The “Riverlights at The Point” celebration is made possible by generous funding from Colcom Foundation.
Local artists, lighting designers, students and architects are invited to submit proposals to develop and implement a temporary artistic lighting concept for Point State Park to be showcased during the fountain grand reopening. Entrants have until February 15, 2013, to submit proposals. The lighting concept RFP and details about “Riverlights at The Point” are available at www.pointstatepark.com.
Performing Arts Series - NEW!
To further performance opportunities for local and regional artists, the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust extends an invitation to musicians, dancers, actors, literary and performance artists to submit work and proposals. The Performing Arts open call period will end on Friday, February 15, 2013. Artists are encouraged to collaborate across disciplines for performances and to present original work as well as audience engagement and participatory activities in the Creativity Zone, Artist Market and Katz Plaza. Visit 3RiversArtsFest.org to apply.
Call for Musicians - NEW!
To further performance opportunities for local and regional musicians, the Festival extends an invitation to musicians to submit work samples for consideration. Deadline to apply is Friday, February 15, 2013. Visit3RiversArtsFest.org for application.
Artist Market
Each year, hundreds of artists from around the country apply to display and sell their original, handmade, one-of-a-kind pieces of art at Pittsburgh’s most celebrated show. Artists are selected through a rigorous jury process in a wide variety of media, from jewelry to painting, woodworking to photography. The Festival awards up to $10,000 to artists and is ranked among the top 40 shows in the United States by Sunshine Artist Magazine. Application fees are $35 per medium, and booth fees range from $340-$410. The deadline to apply is February 10, and all applications are being accepted through Zapplication.org.
Juried Visual Art Exhibition
The Juried Visual Art Exhibition showcases the Pittsburgh region’s vibrant creative community and serves as another pillar of the Festival’s quality artistic offerings. The exhibition is hosted inside the Trust Arts Education Center (Jim E. Rohr Building) at 805-807 Liberty Avenue in the Cultural District during each day of the Festival. All works are juried by a panel of Pittsburgh-based artists and curators. Decisions are based solely on aesthetic quality as determined by the jury panel in an anonymous jury process. Awards include Best In Show ($2,500) as selected by all three jurors; three Juror’s Choice Awards ($500 each); and new this year, the People’s Choice Award as voted by the general public ($500 and an opportunity to show new work at the 2014 Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival). Deadline to apply is February 10 through CallforEntry.org.
Emerging Artist Scholarship Program
The Emerging Artist Scholarship Program helps Pittsburgh-region artists produce their first booth in an outdoor show. Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival’s Emerging Artists Scholarship Program has become the model for others like it in Artists Markets throughout the nation and has launched the art careers of dozens of Pittsburgh-based artists. The scholarship provides a tent and booth space in the Artists Market at no charge. Recipients of the scholarship are also paired with mentors – established artists working in the same medium who can answer questions about exhibiting and offer advice on maximizing sales, designing your booth and pricing your art. A limited number of scholarships are available for this competitive program. Entry is open to any artist who has never done an outdoor show and lives within 100 miles of Pittsburgh. Applications are due February 10 and can be downloaded at http://www.3riversartsfest.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Emerging-Artist-Scholarship-Program_Application.pdf
