WOODVILLE PLANTATION HOSTS HOUSE CONCERT

BRIDGEVILLE, PA (September 24, 2012) - On Saturday, October 20, 2012, Woodville Plantation will host a special event featuring the musical talents of Mark Tamsula, Richard Withers and Ellen Gozion. Beginning at 7 pm, these artists will perform a concert of old time Appalachian music from the Southwestern Pennsylvania region.


MarkTamsula and Richard Withers will play fiddle and banjo instrumentals, in addition to songs on the flute and accordion. Joining them will be Ellen Gozion,who will sing a selection of traditional ballads, also from this region. Mark and Richard have recently released a cd of their music titled Up in the Batten House. You can read more about the cd at their website www.upinthebattenhouse.com. A wine and cheese reception will follow theconcert.



Admission to the concert is $20.00 per person. Tickets must be reserved prior to the day of the show. Seating is limited. To reserve tickets, please call Mike Athey at 412-388-1817. Tickets will be held at will call for payment prior to the start of the show.

BRIDGEVILLE, PA (JUNE 22, 2012) - Step back in time at Woodville Plantation, when this living history museum presents a special weekend to commemorate the anniversary of the Whiskey Rebellion of 1794.

Saturday, July 14 - Fourth Annual Encampment and History Walk on Bower Hill
Woodville Plantation and The Scott Conservancy team up to present an afternoon of activities on Bower Hill, the site of the beginning of the Whiskey Rebellion. Join interpreters portraying the soldiers of the Fourth Sub-Legion of the United States as they return to Bower Hill to discuss and re-create the fateful events of the Whiskey Rebellion, as they occurred in July of 1794. This unique event will include an encampment from 1 pm until 6 pm along the Tom the Tinker Trail, located on Bower Hill.  Participants will experience camp life with cooking demonstrations, musket firings and tactical demonstrations. At 3 pm, a history walk will begin at the PA State Historical Marker on Bower Hill (near Kane Regional Center) and end at the Scrubgrass Run Trailhead. The walk covers approximately one mile along the hillside trails of Bower Hill.  Topics covered include the battle of Bower Hill, the participants of the battle and the Whiskey Rebellion.  The walk is free to the public and reservations are not required. Following the walk, participants are invited to tour Woodville Plantation. Woodville Plantation will be open to the public on Saturday evening from 5 pm to 8 pm. Admission for this special opening is $5 per person, children under 6 free.

Sunday, July 15 - Whiskey Rebellion Day at Woodville Plantation
Interpreters portraying the troops of the Fourth Sub-Legion of the United States will make camp at Woodville Plantation. Visit the soldiers that defended John Neville's property during the opening days of the Whiskey Rebellion. Learn what camp life was like in the U.S. Army of 1794 and participate with the soldiers as they march and drill. Events of the day include tactical demonstrations, musket firing, music demonstrations, marching and ceremonial drills. Visitors will learn 18th century cooking techniques as Woodville's cooks prepare dinner for the encamped troops.  Special hours for this event will be from noon to 5 pm, with a special admission price of $5 per person, children under 6 free.

BRIDGEVILLE, PA (September 6, 2011) - Step back in time at Woodville Plantation as this living history museum presents a special event. On the weekend of Saturday, September 17, and Sunday, September 18, visitors are invited to meet the soldiers of Anthony Wayne's Fourth Sub-Legion of the United States, the troops that defended John Neville's Bower Hill mansion during the Whiskey Rebellion of 1794.

Visitors will experience 18th century military camp life as living history re-enactors set up camp and demonstrate Von Steuben's drills from 1794. Events of the day include tactical demonstrations, musket firing, marching and ceremonial drills. Soldiers will discuss what military camp life was like in the first United States Army, circa 1794.

Special hours for the event are Saturday, September 17, from 5 pm to 8 pm, and Sunday, September 18, from noon to 5 pm. Special admission price for the house and encampment tour will be $3.00 per person.

BRIDGEVILLE, PA (October 13, 2009) – Step back in time at Woodville Plantation as this living history museum presents a new programming series called “Necessary Domestic Duties: a Thousand Little Occurrences Never Foreseen.” On Sunday, October 25, 2009, the next installment of this series will feature the importance of cutting wood and maintaining fires in the 18th century home.

From 1 – 4 pm, guests are invited to join the overseer at Woodville Plantation as he discusses the ever-present necessity of maintaining the fires used for heating and cooking at Woodville. He will also demonstrate period methods for cutting, stacking and using wood. Admission to this special event is $5.00 per person or $10.00 per family.

Part of the monthly “Necessary Domestic Duties: a Thousand Little Occurrences Never Foreseen” series, these programs will present the common everyday activities necessary to maintain and operate a plantation in the 18th century. Throughout 2009, visitors are invited to join the interpreters of Woodville Plantation as they demonstrate how these activities compare to our modern chores such as laundry, cooking, gardening and sewing. In addition, guests will learn about some very different jobs such as raising chickens and cutting and hauling wood. In some cases, visitors may participate in these interactive programs.

BRIDGEVILLE, PA (July 28, 2009) – Step back in time at Woodville Plantation as this living history museum treats visitors to a special tour of a rarely seen area of the plantation. On Sunday, August 2, 2009, the public is invited go above the stairs at the main house.



From 1 to 4 pm, visitors are invited to visit the second floor of Woodville Plantation. Tours will be given of the private rooms of the Neville and Cowan families. Of interest is an original painted checkerboard floor. Don’t miss this rare look into the private lives of Woodville’s residents.
