PITTSBURGH – Prime Stage Theatre enjoys continuing its 2013-2014 season with The Importance of being Earnest by Oscar Wilde.

Directed by Rich Keitel, Earnest is “a trivial comedy for serious people” filled with actors who have successfully entertained audiences on many Pittsburgh stages. Two young men, played by Tom Driscoll and Andrew Swackhammer, in order to impress their two young ladies, played by Hayley Nielsen and Magan Dee Yanko, pretend that their names are “Ernest.” But who is Earnest? Will the secret that has been hidden for years finally be revealed? Will Lady Bracknell, played by Susan McGregor-Laine, keep order amidst this confusion?

The elaborate set designs and period costumes are sure to dazzle and the dialogue and antics of the characters will keep the audience laughing from start to finish.

The performance runs from Saturday, March 8 through Sunday, March 16 at The New Hazlett Theater, with a preview performance on Friday, March 7.

Join us on March 8 for opening night’s “Go Wild with Wilde” event.  Dress up in your best Oscar Wilde inspired outfit, wear a carnation in your lapel, or simply wear a fun hat.  Refreshments will be served.

Directed by Dek Ingraham, Dueling Valentines thrills the audience with an epic battle of love and hate. Listen to poems, sonnets, and odes performed by an all female cast and decide who will be crowned victorious.

It is sure to make for a thrilling night for lovers, as well as those who prefer to fly solo on Valentine’s Day.

Make Feb. 14 a night to remember - Enjoy hor's doerves at Max’s Allegheny Tavern, located at 537 Suismon Street on the North Side, beginning at 7:00 pm with the performance running from 7:30-8:30pm.

Prime Stage Theatre Announces Auditions for World Premiere of The Devil’s Arithmetic

PITTSBURGH – Prime Stage Theatre is excited to announce the auditions for the world premiere of The Devil’s Arithmetic from the Newbery Award Winning novel by Jane Yolen.

Adapted by Barry Komhauser and directed by Lisa Ann Goldsmith, auditions will be held on Tuesday, December 10 and Wednesday, December 11 from 6 to 9 pm at The Oakland School, 362 McKee Place.

We are seeking male and female actors from the ages of 14 to adult. Actors should prepare a one to two minute dramatic monologue, a resume and headshot.

The project includes seated readings of the script. The show opens May 10 running to May 18 at The Hazlett Theater. Performances include four weekday student matinees.

Directed by Dek Ingram, The Kennedy Legacy engages the audience in excerpts from powerful speeches of JFK read by local actors. The audience will get to share where they were and what they remember on that Friday 50 years ago: November 22, 1963.

PITTSBURGH – Prime Stage Theatre is excited to open its 2013-2014 season with Turn of the Screw, adapted by Jeffery Hatcher, from the novella by Henry James.

Directed by Joe Warik, Turn of the Screw is “a total theatrical experience, a challenge for the imagination.” An old English Manor House is filled with secrets, strange movements flicker in the underbrush, unidentifiable cries are heard in the moonlight, and abrupt coldness and breezes touch your imaginations.  Do the ghosts haunt the children? Or is it just her imagination?

The lead of the Governess will be played by Lissa Brennan. Brennan is an actor, director and playwright. She was most recently seen in Don Juan Comes Home From The War and The Vibrator Play with Pittsburgh Irish & Classical Theatre.

George Saulnier will play the narrator, Uncle, Mrs. Grose and the boy, Miles. He recently made his Pittsburgh debut in Same Time, Next Year at the South Park Theater, directed by Wayne Brinda.

The performance will run from Nov. 2-10 at The New Hazlett Theater, with a preview performance on Friday, Nov. 1.

Following the 8 pm performance on Nov. 8, join us for the premiere event of 2nd Stage at Prime Stage. Celebrate the 45th anniversary of Night of the Living Dead with readings of tales of terror hosted by David Crawford as the master of the macabre himself, Edgar Allan Poe.

Touring Production of You Belong to Me

Prime Stage Theatre and YWCA Partner to Educate During Week Without Violence
Touring Production of You Belong to Me Educates through the arts

PITTSBURGH – Prime Stage Theatre is proud to announce the partnership with the YWCA of Pittsburgh and CCAC of Monroeville during the Week Without Violence. PST will present their Highmark sponsored Teen Dating Awareness Program that educates against teen dating violence. The multi-faceted platform raises awareness, encourages, and provides the tools and resources for teens, parents and educators through the arts.

The one-hour presentation will be held on Tuesday, October 15 from 10-1 at the CCAC Boyce Campus located at 595 Beatty Road, Monroeville. It includes the theatrical production of You Belong to Me, an original script written by Debbie Lamedman, in collaboration with Gary Shaw, a teacher at Pittsburg High School in Kansas and his high school students. It is a blend of a first-hand testimony from Ms. Jodi Cuccia, whose daughter was the victim of dating violence, and a theatrical experience.

The program concludes with a Q&A session where the audience gets the opportunity to share their thoughts and ask questions with the cast, teachers and Ms. Cuccia.  The program includes local resources that the audience can contact immediately and confidentially.

TDA is partnered with the Domestic Violence Center of Southwestern PA and endorsed by Futures Without Violence, a national organization whose mission is to prevent and end violence against women and children around the world.
