Second Annual Domestic Violence Awareness Night at PNC Park, Sat., June 4

Crisis Center North and nine other non-profit agencies are partnering with the Pittsburgh Pirates to say “NO MORE” to domestic violence during the 2nd Annual Domestic Violence Awareness Night at PNC Park.

Prior to the Pirates and Angels game on Sat., June 4, Crisis Center North will be on hand for an information fair
picture from http://pittsburgh.pirates.mlb.com/pit/community
sponsored by the Pirates on at PNC Park on Federal Street from 1:30 to 4 p.m.

Attendees can learn how gendered violence impacts their community and how they can take a stand.

"Crisis Center North is excited to continue our partnership with the Pittsburgh Pirates in an effort to shape community perceptions about domestic violence,” says Grace Coleman, executive director of Crisis Center North. “The partnership stresses the importance of male engagement in the issue and underscores the fact that domestic violence is everyone's business."

The awareness night is part of the Father’s Day Pledge to End Gender Violence, a month-long campaign by the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape.

With the support of local agencies, community members, and organizations, the campaign is geared toward spreading awareness of domestic violence issues and resources for victims.

“All of Pittsburgh needs to come together. Now,” Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto says. “I applaud the Pirates and the Pennsylvania coalition against domestic leadership on this critical issue.”

“We salute the local, civic religious and business leaders who are working together to make Pittsburgh a model for our state in the campaign to end gender violence for the next generation,” says PCADV executive director Peg Dierkers.

Interested community members can also support the campaign on social media using the hashtag #FathersDayPledgePA.

WAGNER PRAISES PAT MOVE TO ADD TRIPS TO UNDERSERVED AREAS

MEDIA CONTACT: Lou Takacs, Communications Director

(Pittsburgh) May 19, 2016    Allegheny County Controller Chelsa Wagner lauded today’s recommendation by the Port Authority of Allegheny County (PAT) administration to bolster service
picture from http://www.alleghenycontroller.com/
to neighborhoods in Wilkinsburg, Penn Hills, and Pittsburgh.

“I am extremely pleased that PAT’s leadership has agreed to the repeated requests of residents of these neighborhoods and their advocates for more service. For many in these communities and others, public transit access is not a luxury, but is essential to getting to jobs that do not fall within regular business hours. A ‘most livable’ city cannot leave whole neighborhoods cut off from opportunity, and this decision takes encouraging steps toward meeting the needs of some of these areas,” Wagner said.

Last week, Wagner issued a financial report showing that the County’s Alcoholic Beverage and Vehicle Rental taxes have produced a $16 million surplus in a fund that by law must be used for public transit. She urged that these funds be put to immediate use for service improvements.

“New state funding and the increased local economic activity that has produced the transit fund surplus give us the opportunity and the obligation to connect all of our communities to areas that are prospering. More neighborhoods remain where this need must be addressed, and we also must continue steps to modernize the system so that it attracts new ridership. PAT has taken encouraging steps with the upcoming fare changes and now with this announcement, but further advances must continue to be made,” Wagner said.

Pittsburgh Cultural Trust
The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust has overseen one of Pittsburgh’s most historic transformations: turning a seedy red-light district into a magnet destination for arts lovers, residents, visitors, and business owners. Founded in 1984, the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is a non-profit arts organization whose mission is the cultural and economic revitalization of a 14-block arts and entertainment/residential neighborhood called the Cultural District. The District is one of the country’s largest land masses “curated” by a single nonprofit arts organization. A major catalytic force in the city, the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is a unique model of how public-private partnerships can reinvent a city with authenticity, innovation and creativity. Using the arts as an economic catalyst, the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust has holistically created a world-renowned Cultural District that is revitalizing the city, improving the regional economy and enhancing Pittsburgh’s quality of life. Thanks to the support of foundations, corporations, government agencies and thousands of private citizens, the Cultural Trust stands as a national model of urban redevelopment through the arts.  Follow us on Twitter @CulturalTrust, and like us on Facebook.
