The U.S. Senate last week passed a resolution, introduced by Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), to designate the first week in November as National Veterans Small Business Week. The measure extends the Senate’s appreciation to the nation’s many small business owners who have served in uniform.
Scheduled events also include Boots to Business: Reboot training in 30 locations nationwide, a lending discussion panel and a Women Veterans Entrepreneur Network (WOVEN (link is external)) small business expo in Los Angeles, an online webinar for military spouses, a Women Veterans Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship (VWISE (link is external)) business development event for women veterans and military spouses/partners in Kansas City, and a session focusing on franchising for veteran business owners in Washington, D.C.
The twofold purpose of National Veterans Small Business Week is to applaud the success of veteran entrepreneurs, and to let transitioning military, veterans and their spouses and partners know about the SBA’s programs and services. During the past year, SBA provided technical assistance to more than 200,000 veterans and ensured over $1 billion in capital for businesses owned by veterans and their spouses. In addition to the SBA’s district offices and resource partners, the White House is involved in supporting NVSBW events. Join the conversation about NVSBW on social media using the #MyVetBiz hashtag.
SBA is encouraging veteran business owners to tell their stories, while urging the community to share their appreciation for local veteran entrepreneurs. For more about NVSBW events happening in your area, visit www.sba.gov/NVSBW
Each year SBA helps more than 200,000 veterans, reservists and service-disabled veterans start and grow their small businesses. To learn more about additional opportunities for veterans available through the SBA, visit www.sba.gov/vets.
