PSO CELEBRATES BROADWAY WITH PNC POPS CONCERTS FEATURING HIT SONGS FROM ‘MISS SAIGON, ‘LES MISÉRABLES’

Concerts feature guest conductor Jack Everly, Carnegie Mellon University Concert Choir

PITTSBURGH – Conductor Jack Everly conducts the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) and Carnegie Mellon University Concert Choir in PNC Pops concerts celebrating the much-beloved music from the Broadway hits, Miss Saigon and Les Misérables.

The concerts begin at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 12; 8 p.m., Friday, April 13, and Saturday, April 14; and 2:30 p.m., Sunday, April 15. Tickets, ranging from $20 - $95, can be purchased by calling the Heinz Hall box office at 412.392.4900, or visiting the PSO at www.pittsburghsymphony.org.

The Carnegie Mellon Concert Choir, under the direction of Robert Page, offers stunning vocals to accompany the PSO’s performance.  Broadway legends Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil collaborated to create Les Misérables, the Tony Award-winning hit musical that has captivated millions. The PSO performs blockbuster songs, including “Bring Him Home,” “I Dreamed a Dream,” “One Day More” and the unforgettable chorus “Do You Hear the People Sing?”

The program also features music from another hugely successful Schönberg-Boublil collaboration, Miss Saigon, including the hits “The American Dream” and “I’d Give My Life for You.”

The PSO would like to recognize and thank PNC for their 2011-2012 title sponsorship of PNC Pops. Fairmont Pittsburgh is the official hotel of the PSO. Bobby Rahal Automotive Group is the official automotive group of the PSO.

Jack Everly is the Principal Pops Conductor of the Baltimore and Indianapolis Symphony Orchestras, Naples Philharmonic Orchestra and National Arts Centre Orchestra (Ottawa), and the newly named Music Director of the National Memorial Day Concert and A Capitol Fourth on PBS. This season, he returns to the Cleveland Orchestra and appears as guest conductor in Pittsburgh, Detroit, Edmonton, Ft. Worth and Phoenix. Everly is the Music Director of Yuletide Celebration, now celebrating its 25th anniversary. These theatrical symphonic holiday concerts are presented annually in December in Indianapolis and are seen by more than 40,000 concert-goers. Everly led the ISO in its first Pops recording, Yuletide Celebration, Volume One, that included three of his own arrangements. Originally appointed by Mikhail Baryshnikov, Everly was conductor of the American Ballet Theatre for 14 years, where he served as Music Director. In addition to his ABT tenure, he has teamed with Marvin Hamlisch in Broadway shows that Hamlisch scored, including, The Goodbye Girl, They’re Playing Our Song and A Chorus Line. He conducted Carol Channing hundreds of times in Hello, Dolly! in two separate Broadway productions.
