WOODVILLE PLANTATION HOSTS MILTARY REENACTMENT

BRIDGEVILLE, PA (May 20, 2012) – Step back in time at Woodville Plantation, when this living history museum presents an 18th century military reenactment.  On Sunday, May 20, 2012, history enthusiasts are invited to join the soldiers of Wayne’s Fourth Sub-Legion, the first Army of the United States, as they practice the drills of Baron Von Steuben from 1794. Events of the day include tactical demonstrations, musket firing, marching and ceremonial drills. Weather permitting.

Admission is $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for children age 6-12 and free for children under age 6. Admission includes a house tour. Event hours are from 1 pm to 4 pm.

Woodville Plantation, the home of John and Presley Neville, is Western Pennsylvania’s link to the late 18th century. Built in 1775, this living history museum interprets life during the period of 1780-1820, the Era of the New Republic. Guided tours of the house are available every Sunday from 1 to 4 pm.

Just 7 miles and 15 minutes south of Pittsburgh, Woodville is conveniently located 1/4 mile north of Interstate I-79 Exit 55 (Kirwin Heights Exit) on Route 50, near the intersection of Thoms Run Road in Collier Township.  WOODVILLE PLANTATION TO CONDUCT 18^TH CENTURY COOKING CLASSES

 BRIDGEVILLE, PA (March 29, 2012) – Throughout 2012, Woodville Plantation will present a series of hands-on cooking classes titled Cookery Made Plain and Easy. Guests will have a unique opportunity to join historical interpreters in Woodville’s original kitchen to learn food preparation, cooking and presentation methods of the 18th century. Using Hannah Glasse’s 1796 cookbook and other period resources, students will learn how to prepare tasty 18^th century recipes.

The first class of the year will be held from 1 pm to 5 pm on Sunday, April 15, 2012. With period correct ingredients and reproduction cooking equipment, students will be taught how to cook an onion pie, English onion soup and forced onions.

Interested participants must pre-register by phone prior to the class. The cost for each class is $20.00. Registration fees are non-refundable. Classes are limited to 6 students. Please call (412) 221-0348 to pre-register, or if you have any questions.
