Most Awarded Musical of 2015 to Play the Benedum Center, May 30 - June 11, 2017
Pittsburgh, PA • March 1, 2016 – AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, the most awarded new musical of 2015 and winner of four Tony Awards®, will play the Benedum Center for a two-week engagement May 30-June 11, 2017. The first national tour of AN AMERICAN IN PARIS will be presented as part of the Pittsburgh CLO 2017 Summer Season and the PNC Broadway in Pittsburgh 2016-17 series.
“We created the world premiere of the new musical AN AMERICAN IN PARIS in Paris and then on Broadway, with the ultimate destination being our Pittsburgh CLO subscribers," said Executive Producer Van Kaplan. “Half of our sizeable cast made their Broadway debut in our show, including our Director/Choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, which for me is Pittsburgh CLO at its best: creating professional opportunities for young artists in new musicals that become tomorrow's revivals. Our desire for this show was of course the same as it for all of our subscription productions, to provide our audiences with the unique thrill of satisfyingly big-musicals without having to go to New York. They're in for a treat with this one.”
“The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is pleased to collaborate with the Pittsburgh CLO to bring this truly beautiful production to Pittsburgh,” shared Marc Fleming, Vice President of Marketing & Communications for the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust.  “AN AMERICAN IN PARIS is filled with the music and romance set to a captivating story that will delight Pittsburgh audiences.”
Inspired by the Academy-Award winning film, AN AMERICAN IN PARIS is the romantic story about an American soldier, a mysterious French girl and an indomitable European city, each yearning for a new beginning in the aftermath of war.

Directed and choreographed by 2015 Tony Award-winner Christopher Wheeldon, this production of AN AMERICAN IN PARIS brings this classic tale to the stage for the first time, with music and lyrics by George and Ira Gershwin and book by Craig Lucas. AN AMERICAN IN PARIS won four 2015 Tony Awards; four Drama Desk Awards; four Outer Critics Circle Awards including Best Musical; the Drama League Award for Best Musical; three Fred and Adele Astaire Awards; and two Theatre World Awards.
The creative team is comprised of Tony Award-winners Bob Crowley (sets and costumes), Natasha Katz (lighting), Jon Weston (sound), 59 Productions (projections) with the musical score adapted, arranged and supervised by Rob Fisher, orchestrations by Christopher Austin, dance arrangements by Sam Davis, musical supervision by Todd Ellison with additional orchestrations by Don Sebesky and Bill Elliott. Casting is by Telsey + Company/Rachel Hoffman, C.S.A.
The score of AN AMERICAN IN PARIS includes the songs "I Got Rhythm," "Liza," "'S Wonderful," "But Not For Me," "I'll Build a Stairway to Paradise," and orchestral music including "Concerto in F," "Second Prelude," "Second Rhapsody/Cuban Overture" and "An American In Paris."
The production opened to widespread critical acclaim at the Palace Theatre on Broadway on April 12, 2015 after its world premiere at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris November 22, 2014-January 4, 2015.
The producers are Stuart Oken, Van Kaplan and Roy Furman by special arrangement with Elephant Eye Theatrical, Pittsburgh CLO and Théâtre du Châtelet.
