EIC ANNOUNCES NOMINATIONS FOR 18th ANNUAL PRISM AWARDS - NODS FOR JULIA ROBERTS, MERYL STREEP, OPRAH, JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT, EDIE FALCO, ALLISON JANNEY, LL COOL J, JEWEL, MARISKA HARGITAY

Los Angeles, CA (March 6, 2014) – The Entertainment Industries Council, Inc. (EIC) has announced the nominees for the 18th Annual PRISM Awards. The PRISM Awards honor TV, movie, music, online, and comic book entertainment that accurately depicts drug, alcohol and tobacco use and addiction, as well as mental health issues. The Nomination Review Committee of over 80 representatives of both the entertainment industry and health field, selected nominees from nearly 400 productions submitted, according to Brian Dyak, President and CEO of EIC.

Among networks, CBS and Lifetime came out on top with 12 nominations apiece, followed byABC (10), Showtime (8), TNT(6), NBC (5), TeenNick and MTV(3 each), and Fox, CNN andOWN (2 each). ABC Studios took the number one slot among studios with 12 nominations, followed by CBS Studios/CBS Domestic Television (11), Warner Bros. (8), Sony (7),Weinstein Co. and Universal/NBC Universal Television (6 each), 20th/Fox 21/FTVS (4),Epitome Pictures (3), and Lionsgate and Relativity (2 each).
Winners will be announced during a ceremony on April 22, 2014 at the Skirball Center. In the Feature Film categories, nominees were August: Osage County and Lee Daniels’ The Butler (Weinstein Co.), Cleaver’s Destiny (Dagger Charge Films), Don Jon (Relativity/Voltage),Home (Entertainment One), Junction (Choice Films), The Spectacular Now (A24), and The Story of Luke (Gravitas Ventures). Feature film performances nominated were Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Don Jon), Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep (August: Osage County), Oprah Winfrey (Lee Daniels’ The Butler), and Shailene Woodley (The Spectacular Now). Woodley was previously nominated for Secret Life of an American Teenager.

For Comedy Series, nominated episodes or multi-episode storylines hailed from Brody Stevens: Enjoy It! (Comedy Central), Californication (Showtime), Drop Dead Diva (Lifetime),Mom (CBS), and Nurse Jackie (Showtime). Drop Dead Diva and Nurse Jackie are both past winners and Californication is a past nominee. Nominated comedy performances were David Duchovny (Californication), Brooke Elliott (Drop Dead Diva), Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie), and Anna Faris and Allison Janney (Mom). Elliott and Falco are past nominees and Janney is a past winner for the TV movie Our Very Own.

Drama Episodes nominated were from Blue Bloods (CBS), Bones (Fox), Graceland (USA), Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (NBC), Longmire (A&E), The Mentalist (CBS), Scandal (ABC), and Southland (TNT), as well as two episodes of Perception (TNT). Both SVU and Southlandare past winners, and Blue Bloods is a past nominee.  Michael Cudlitz (Southland), John Francis Daley (Bones), Will Estes (Blue Bloods), Tony Goldwyn (Scandal), and Eric McCormack (Perception) were nominated for Performance in a Drama Episode. Last year, Cudlitz took home the prize.

In the area of Drama Multi-Episode Storylines, nods went to Dexter (Showtime), Elementary(CBS), Homeland (Showtime), Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (NBC), Nashville (ABC),NCIS: Los Angeles (CBS), Parenthood (NBC), and Shameless (Showtime), as well as two separate story arcs for Grey’s Anatomy (ABC). Homeland, SVU (twice), Grey’s (twice),Parenthood (four times) and Shameless are all past winners, while Nashville took home last year’s EIC President’s Award. This is Elementary’s second consecutive nomination.Performance nominations for multi-episode stories went to Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter),Justin Chambers, James Remar and Chandra Wilson (all Grey’s Anatomy), Mariska Hargitay (SVU), Lucy Liu and Jonny Lee Miller (Elementary), LL Cool J and Eric Christian Olsen (NCIS: LA), and Hayden Panettiere (Nashville). Chambers, Liu and Panettiere are past nominees. Hargitay previously earned an award for SVU, while Wilson took home the award for the TV movie Accidental Friendship.

Christmas with Tucker (Hallmark) and the Lifetime movies Anna Nicole, Call Me Crazy: A Five Film, House of Versace, and Ring of Fire earned nominations for TV Movie or Miniseries. TV Movie Performance nods went to Agnes Buckner (Anna Nicole), Gina Gershon (House of Versace), and Jewel and Matt Ross (Ring of Fire), as well as the ensemble for Call Me Crazy. Also nominated was daytime drama series Days of Our Lives (NBC), which has won multiple times over the years. In the Teen or Children’s Program arena, nominees were three storylines from Degrassi: The Next Generation (TeenNick) and an episode of Nick News with Linda Ellerbee (Nickelodeon). Nick News has won twice before and Degrassi took the award last year. Original Internet Programming nominations were for the WIGS series Lauren and Susanna, and for online webisode Next Week’s Game. Internet performance nominees were Jennifer Beals and Troian Bellisario for Lauren, and Maggie Grace and Anna Paquin forSusanna. This is the first year online programming is being recognized.

Los Angeles, CA (February 27, 2013)  – Unscripted, scripted and performance nominees are announced for the Entertainment Industries Council’s (EIC) 17th Annual PRISM Awards. The PRISM Awards honor TV, movies, music, and comic book entertainment that accurately depicts substance abuse, treatment and recovery, as well as mental health issues. The Nomination Review Committee of over 80 representatives of both the entertainment industry and health field scored nominees from more than 400 productions submitted, according to Brian Dyak, President, CEO and Co-Founder, EIC.

“Powerful stories about mental health not only raises public awareness, but may also encourage people to recognize and address these issues in their personal lives. PRISM Awards aggregate these topics from media and spotlight the impact our industry has to create positive change in people’s lives,” Dr. Drew Pinsky, TV host and longtime PRISM Awards supporter and current nominee for Dr. Drew on Call and Rehab with Dr. Drew: Season 6.

Drama Episodes nominated were from Army Wives (Lifetime), Awake (NBC), Chicago Fire (NBC), CSI: New York (CBS), The Good Wife (CBS), Grey’s Anatomy (ABC), The Mob Doctor (Fox), Necessary Roughness (USA), Parenthood (NBC), and Southland(TNT). Michael Cudlitz (Southland), Wendy Davis (Army Wives), Jason Isaacs (Awake), Sandra Oh (Grey’s Anatomy), and Callie Thorne (Necessary Roughness) were nominated for Performance in a Drama Episode.

In the area of Drama Multi-Episode Storylines, nods went to American Horror Story: Asylum (FX), Army Wives (Lifetime), Breaking Bad (AMC), Elementary (CBS),Homeland (Showtime), Justified (FX), Nashville (ABC), NCIS (CBS), 90210 (CW), Nurse Jackie (Showtime), Sons of Anarchy (FX), and Touch (Fox). Performance nominations for multi-episode stories went to Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), Claire Danes (Homeland), Mark Harmon (NCIS), Jessica Lange (American Horror Story: Asylum), Lucy Liu (Elementary), Neal McDonough (Justified), Hayden Panettiere (Nashville), Katey Sagal (Sons of Anarchy), and Kiefer Sutherland (Touch).

Duke (Hallmark) and Of Two Minds (Lifetime) earned nominations for TV Movie or Miniseries. Also nominated was daytime drama series Days of Our Lives (NBC). In the Teen or Children’s Program arena, nominees were three storylines from Degrassi: The Next Generation (TeenNick).

Entertainment Industries Council, in collaboration with Staunton Farm Foundation, presents Veterans: Return, Reconnect & Reintegrate Community Forum, Building Healthy Communities in Southwestern Pennsylvania

Forum participants engaged in brainstorming sessions between panels to determine
'steps for success.'

PITTSBURGH, PA (NOVEMBER 30, 2012) -- The Staunton Farm Foundation and the Entertainment & Media Communication Institute of the Entertainment Industries Council, Inc. (EIC) hosted “Veterans: Return, Reconnect & Reintegrate Community Forum, Building Healthy Communities in SWPA,” a forum consisting of two sessions moderated by EIC’s SWPA Regional Director and award-winning journalist/producer Susan Brozek Scott and featuring experts in mental health and veterans issues. Junior Ortiz, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Policy, Veterans’ Employment and Training Services, United States Department of Labor delivered the keynote address at the forum spotlighting returning veterans at the Hilton Garden Inn at Pittsburgh Southpointe. Featured panelists, detailed below, included local and regional representatives from WalMart, U.S. Department of Labor’s VETS program, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs – Pittsburgh Healthcare System, UPMC, media and other organizations.

The forum and workshop are part of an ongoing effort in Southwestern Pennsylvania by Staunton Farm and EIC to raise awareness of Mental Health issues and increase understanding and acceptance of individuals with Mental Health diagnoses. Special emphasis is being placed on an integrated approach to support returning military.

“Some returning military are facing a difficult time. Many do not know what to expect from the job market or community upon their return. Others will face personal struggles related to reintegration or battlefield wounds, both mentally and physically. EIC and Staunton Farm want to support our returning military by preparing the community and family for their return,” said Joni S. Schwager, Executive Director of the Staunton Farm Foundation.

The forum began with “Personal Stories,” a first-hand account of reintegration challenges by veterans who have returned from deployment.

Session One, “Healthy Families,” concentrated on re-integrating the veteran back into the family and the community in addition to exploring the resource options available to re-integrate into the community.

Session Two, “Cornerstone of Community: Education, Certification, Accreditation and Jobs,” explored job opportunities and realities in rural areas including employment guidance and training services designed to help guide career transitions. Panelists acknowledged that job preparedness can be stressful for veterans and their families as they prepare to pursue reintegration steps and discussed resources available to assist.

“It’s important that we recognize that Veterans have amazing stories of triumph and perseverance to share; they have supportive families often looking for ways to ease the burden of reintegration; and they have specific skills that, if properly utilized, can add incredible value to our community. Veterans are at a crossroads and their families are equally in need of resources. The Entertainment Industries Council is proud to be able to support these needs, with The Staunton Farm Foundation and our knowledgeable speakers,” said Susan Brozek Scott, Pittsburgh Regional Director for EIC.

Ortiz is a retired Lieutenant Colonel of the United States Marines and his professional career spans over 30 years of working in government, corporate and the nonprofit sector.'

Brian Dyak, President & CEO, Entertainment Industries Council, Inc.
Dyak is a pioneer of edutainment and depiction of health and social issues, is a nationally recognized impresario of social marketing and communication strategies. As founder and President/CEO of the Entertainment Industries Council, Inc. (EIC), and the Entertainment and Media Communication Institute, he has successfully constructed a bridge between the entertainment industry and health and social policy issues for the past 28 years.

William DeMauri, Business Analyst II, UPMC Talent Acquisition
DeMauri responsibilities include analyzing data, cost/benefit analyses, and a new project that focuses on the issues faced by Veterans transitioning from the Military to Civilian employment.

Billy G. Lanham, Veterans Program Specialist, USDOL-VETS
Lanham is assigned as a Veterans Program Specialist in the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania office of the United States Department of Labor’s Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (USDOL-VETS).

Heidi Milne, Market Human Resource Manager, WalMart Stores
Milne provides consultation for 15 stores in the Pittsburgh/Western Pennsylvania region driving store-level talent management by developing and implementing store management talent plans and associate engagement by analyzing survey data and employment trends. She also ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws, and company policies/procedures/regulations.

David Biernesser is a documentary photographer based out of Pittsburgh, PA. He decided to follow his passion for photography before his second deployment to Afghanistan in the United States Marine Corps. His work includes a series of images depicting the everyday life and struggle of the people of Marjah, Afghanistan.

Susan Brozek Scott, Pittsburgh Regional Director, Entertainment Industries Council, will moderate the panel discussions. EIC’s work in SWPA includes media training for hundreds of mental health advocates, the development of toolkits to connect mental health advocates, agencies, caregivers, law enforcement and consumers with media outlets in ten Pennsylvania counties; and the launching of the Media and Mental Health Awards for journalists.

Michael Crabtree, PhD serves as the Principal Investigator for the Combat Stress Intervention Program, which addresses mental needs of veterans from National Guard and Reserves returning to rural Southwestern PA. He is also a Professor of Psychology for Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, PA.

Dr. Victor Wong is a clinical psychologist, and part of the Combat Stress Recovery Team for the US Department of Veterans Affairs, Pittsburgh Health Care System.

Misty Shields serves as Assistant Vice-President of Community Base Care, US Department of Veterans Affairs, Pittsburgh Health Care System. Misty Shields was recently appointed the Assistant VP of Community Base Care at the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs Pittsburgh Health Care System and previously was the Manager of Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation New Dawn Program, which manages and coordinates the care for all of our recently returned Veterans.

Ken Elshoff represents the Human Resource Dept, U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, Pittsburgh Health Care System. Ken Elshoff is a HR Specialist (Staffing) at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System. He has been with the VA for 6 years and started at the Iowa City VA, relocating to Pittsburgh in 2008. In the Staffing section he helps staff and recruits for facility vacancies, facilitate the internal movements of employees, as well as contribute to organizational restructuring. In addition, he spent 4 years in the Navy as a Telecommunication Electrician and was discharged 1 month before 9/11/01.

The Staunton Farm Foundation is dedicated to making grants to support treatment, services, and system improvements for children, youth, and adults with behavioral health issues in 10 southwestern PA counties..
