Pittsburgh, PA— The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust announces ArtsPower’s musical touring production Dog Loves Books will open the 2016-2017 Citizens Bank Children’s Theater Series. Performances take place November 13 through 20, 2016 at six different locations throughout the area.
Dog Loves Books, produced byArtsPower, is based on Louise Yates’ New York Times best seller.  Dog Loves Bookscelebrates the power of the imagination and the satisfaction that comes from sharing books with others.  The musical features songs and choreography that bring to life the story of Dog and his love of books that leads him to open a book store.  In order to convince people to buy his books, Dog acts out some of his favorite stories, including a modern version of “Little Red Riding Hood”.  The performance is recommended for ages 3-10 years and is 55 minutes in length.
ArtsPower was founded in 1985 by brothers Gary and Mark Blackman.  Greg Gunning is the artistic director and Karen Bibbo is the company and production manager.  The company has presented original musicals and dramas to children and families across the country in 49 states for the past 31 years.  In 2015, ArtsPower was named as one of America’s top 12 touring theatre companies “that make a difference” across the United States by Backstage.com.

Pittsburgh Cultural Trust
The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust has overseen one of Pittsburgh’s most historic transformations: turning a seedy red-light district into a magnet destination for arts lovers, residents, visitors, and business owners. Founded in 1984, the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is a non-profit arts organization whose mission is the cultural and economic revitalization of a 14-block arts and entertainment/residential neighborhood called the Cultural District. The District is one of the country’s largest land masses “curated” by a single nonprofit arts organization. A major catalytic force in the city, the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is a unique model of how public-private partnerships can reinvent a city with authenticity, innovation and creativity. Using the arts as an economic catalyst, the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust has holistically created a world-renowned Cultural District that is revitalizing the city, improving the regional economy and enhancing Pittsburgh’s quality of life. Thanks to the support of foundations, corporations, government agencies and thousands of private citizens, the Cultural Trust stands as a national model of urban redevelopment through the arts.
