PRESENTATION OF
WAYNE MCGREGOR | RANDOM DANCE
FAR
GROUND-BREAKING CHOREOGRAPHY BY
AWARD-WINNING CHOREOGRAPHER
Saturday, April 26, 2014 | 8:00 p.m. | Byham Theater

Pittsburgh, PA: Pittsburgh Dance Council, a division of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, brings you Wayne McGregor | Random Dance on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at 8:00 p.m., at the Byham Theater. Award-winning, anatomy-defying British choreographer Wayne McGregor has crafted a stunning piece for the ten dancers from Wayne McGregor | Random Dance that will present the evening length work, FAR.
McGregor’s choreography FAR was inspired by the controversial Age of Enlightenment and by the 18th century French philosopher Diderot's very first set of encyclopedia. His groundbreaking vision embraces dance, science, film, music, visual art and technology to create intriguing, expansive works. And FAR is no exception. Staged in a mesmerizing environment of shadow and light, performed by 10 dancers, FAR binds innovative design with choreography inspired by radical cognitive research process. Since the premiere of FAR in 2010, the work has been performed around the world, receiving accolades for its ever-insightful vision. “Wayne McGregor is doing some of the most exciting work on the planet.” –The New York Times

The performance includes a superb score by Brian Eno and collaborator Ben Frost, visuals including a computerized pin board of 3,200 LED lights designed by rAndom International and Lucy Carter,  and costumes by Moritz Junge.
Wayne McGregor is renowned for his physically testing choreography and ground-breaking collaborations across dance, film, music, visual art, technology and science. He is the Artistic Director of Wayne McGregor | Random Dance and Resident Choreographer of The Royal Ballet. McGregor has created new works for Paris Opera Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, New York City Ballet, Australian Ballet, English National Ballet, NDT1, Rambert Dance Company among others. His works are also in the repertories of the leading ballet companies in the world including the Bolshoi, Royal Danish Ballet, National Ballet of Canada, Boston Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and the Mariinsky Ballet. He has directed movement for theatre and film including Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and has choreographed music videos including the Grammy-nominated Lotus Flower video for Radiohead, and Ingenue for Atoms for Peace. In July 2012 he created a large-scale public dance work with 1000 performers, Big Dance Trafalgar Square, part of London 2012 Festival in celebration of the London Olympic Games
