CD Live! presents venerated singer/songwriter/guitarist
The Richard Thompson Band

Monday, November 1, 2010, at 8:00 p.m.

Byham Theater, 101 Sixth Street

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust welcomes back a long-standing Pittsburgh favorite. The legendary British singer/songwriter/guitarist Richard Thompson and his band return to the Byham Theater as a part of its CDLive! series. Richard Thompson, who has earned vast critical praise for his magnificent guitar work and the dark wit and richness of his extraordinary songwriting, lights up the Byham Theater stage on Monday, November 1, 2010, at 8:00 p.m. The CDLive! series, presented by The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, Three Rivers Arts Festival (a programming division of the Cultural Trust) and WYEP 91.3 FM, brings great artists to great venues. This collaboration of non-profit organizations aims to build audiences for new music and attract new audiences to the Cultural District.

Thompson’s illustrious career dates back to the late 1960s when at age 18 he was a founding member of the pioneering English folk rock band Fairport Convention. In the early 1970s, Thompson left Fairport Convention to form a musical and personal partnership with folksinger Linda Peters. The couple married and performed together until divorcing in 1982. Since that time, Richard Thompson has enjoyed a prolific run of recordings and live tours as a solo artist.

An artist whose expansive canon of work is heard regularly on 91.3fm WYEP, Richard Thompson is actively touring in support of his latest recording, Dream Attic. Thompson took an interesting approach for the album; instead of recording new songs in a studio, he made demo recordings, rehearsed the songs with his band and then recorded the new material live on a two week U.S. tour. Undoubtedly, Richard Thompson fans will enjoy hearing the results of his latest creative efforts. His legion of worldwide devotees will tell you that Richard Thompson is one of the most consistently dazzling guitarists you’re likely to see on stage.

Tickets ($33.25 & $39.25) for The Richard Thompson Band on Monday, November 1, 2010, at 8:00 p.m., at the Byham Theater may be purchased at the Box Office at Theater Square (655 Penn Avenue), online at pgharts.org, or by calling (412) 456-6666.
