MTAP-Musical Theatre Artists of Pittsburgh
Seeking song submissions for second edition of
Hot Metal Musicals
Pittsburgh, PA – February 1, 2017. MTAP--Musical Theatre Artists of Pittsburgh is asking regional artists and songwriters to submit songs to MTAPgh@gmail.com by March 1 to be considered for its second edition of Hot Metal Musicals, scheduled for June 5, 2017, at the Cabaret Theater at Theater Square in downtown Pittsburgh. The showcase aims to raise the profile of new musical theatre work developed by current and prospective MTAP members, but songs unattached to a musical will also be considered. MTAP is open to all and invites and encourages submissions from artists working in many different musical idioms, from traditional musical theatre to pop, rock, jazz, hip hop, rap and musical languages still in the making.
Interested artists are asked to send one or two song demos, either as mp3s or with a link to YouTube, SoundCloud, etc. If the song or songs come from a musical, a brief synopsis of the show (Word file or pdf) should accompany them. The demos must be sung; no electronic vocal lines. Artists may submit materials for more than one show but are asked to submit each show via separate email. Any songwriter looking to write something new may find inspiration in Pittsburgh itself. All materials must be submitted electronically to MTAPgh@gmail.com with one project per email (limit of 3 separate submissions) and must include the artist/s name, email and phone number on all submitted materials.
Selected musical theatre artists will be asked to send additional materials by April 15, including a piano/vocal score or lead sheet for the selected song or songs. There is no fee to submit work, but since the purpose of Hot Metal Musicals is to showcase MTAP member work, selected artists will be asked to become core members of MTAP, which requires payment of modest dues (membership is currently $25.00/year, student membership is free, and all meetings are open to anyone interested whether a member or not). More information is available at MTAP’s website: mtap.weebly.com.
MTAP has been established to foster collaboration between musical theatre artists in the region, and to create opportunities for the development, presentation, and production of new musical theatre. Besides the inaugural Hot Metal Musicals in 2015, MTAP has produced in its brief history six Incubator readings of members’ shows in development. It welcomes new members, including composers, librettists, lyricists, performers, musicians, directors and producers, and seeks the involvement of artists creating new musical theatre of all kinds.
Please email mtapgh@gmail.com for more information or to get involved.
