Rock duo reaches semifinals in PSAC Individual Tennis Championships
BLOOMSBURG, PA. – Slippery Rock University’s doubles team of seniors Nina Grbac (Pula, Croatias/Boca Prep International School) and Sarah Joumond (Montpelier, France/St. Joseph) advanced to the semifinal round before being eliminated from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Individual Tennis Championships hosted by Bloomsburg University.

In opening-day action Saturday, the third-seeded Rock duo beat Shippensburg’s Julia Saintz and Brittnee Buckley 8-0 in first-round action and downed the Indiana (Pa.) tandem of Erika Schnass and Alanna McFail 8-5 in second-round action.
The top-seeded team of Lucie Rey and Lucie Sipkova from California (Pa.) beat Grbac and Joumond 9-8 (7-3) in semifinal action Sunday morning.
In singles matches played Saturday, Grbac recorded two wins to advance to the quarterfinal round before being eliminated. Grbac beat Cheyney’s Ciera Brown 6-0, 6-0 in first-round action and defeated Mercyhurst’s Courtney Thompson by 6-2, 6-1 score in second-round action.
Grbac’s quest for a conference individual title came to an end with a 7-6 (4), 7-5 loss to Indiana’s Tanya Timko in a quarterfinal match Saturday.
Joumond suffered an opening-round, 6-1, 6-1 setback Saturday against Bloomsburg’s Maddie Graziani.
Grbac and Joumond are slated to play at No. 1 and No. 2 singles and team up to play No. 1 doubles when The Rock open their dual-match schedule Tuesday at West Liberty University in West Virginia. The match is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
