Fiddlesticks Hosts A Season of Celebrations Family PSO Concerts

PSO MUSICAL AMBASSADOR FIDDLESTICKS HOSTS ‘A SEASON OF CELEBRATIONS‘ FAMILY CONCERTS IN 2012-2013

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra’s popular feline musical ambassador, Fiddlesticks, returns for ’A Season of Celebrations‘ to introduce children to music at three Saturday morning concerts at Heinz Hall.


From infancy on, children are exposed to the music of lullabies, sing-a-longs, folk tunes, and pop music, and the Fiddlesticks Family Concerts continue to explore various genres of music. Each of the performances is preceded by a pre-concert event called Discovery Time Adventures. These educational activities begin at 10 a.m. and allow young audiences and their parents to meet the PSO musicians, learn songs, and take part in various musical activities. The 45-minute concert begins at 11:15 a.m. and is filled with engaging music and interaction with everyone’s favorite friendly feline!

Fiddlesticks kicks off the 2012-2013 “Season of Celebrations” as he travels in Celebrations around the World! at 11:15 a.m., Oct. 6. Fiddlesticks joins Resident Conductor Lawrence Loh and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) for the music of America the Beautiful and Strauss' Pleasure Train Polka.

Soprano Katy Williams and CLO Academy Tap Dancers Celebrate Pittsburgh at 11:15 a.m., Feb. 2. Pittsburgh pride will be in the spotlight for this special community concert, which also will commemorate of one of Pittsburgh's most iconic entertainment figures, Gene Kelly. Joe Negri, and one of Pittsburgh's most famous jazz musicians and frequent guest of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, performs in celebration of the "City of Steel."

The season concludes with a concert at 11:15 a.m., April 6, when the PSO family wishes Happy Birthday, Fiddlesticks! Fiddlesticks invites his friends to celebrate his special birthday. The guests include Clare Bradford, winner of the Duquesne Concert Competition, returns to the stage to play Saint-Saëns’ Cello Concerto No. 1. Stephanie Maloney also returns for the fun with a special “Cat Duet” with Katy Williams.
