Pittsburgh Public Theater’s Town Hall Project Presents
Doing Good



Locals talk about causes that moved them to take action plus a non-profit showcase and refreshments sponsored by Yelp Helps.



From 6 to 9 pm on Mon., Nov. 19, all three floors of Downtown’s O’Reilly Theater will be filled with people Doing Good. The second event in The Public’s Town Hall Project, presented with Yelp Helps, will start at 6 pm with a showcase of local non-profit organizations. Those attending this free event will be able to browse among tables and speak with organization members to learn about volunteer opportunities. Participating organizations include: The American Liver Foundation, Animal Rescue League, Arthritis Foundation, Dress For Success, East End Cooperative Ministry, Family House, Gay 4 Good, Gilda’s Club, Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank, Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council, Heinz History Center, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Mattress Factory, National Ovarian Cancer Society, Persad Center, Strong Women Strong Girls, Tree Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Pittsburgh CLO, Toonseum, Who’s Your Brother, and WYEP/WESA. Also during this time complimentary refreshment samples will be provided by 1947 Tavern, Burgatory, Elbow Room, Franktuary, Fuze, Great Lakes Brewery, Honest Tea, Kaleidoscope CafĂ©, Oh My Grill, Om Nom Bake Shop, and Wigle Whiskey.





At 7 pm Doing Good continues in the auditorium with a panel discussion during which Pittsburghers will talk about causes that moved them to take action. Introduced by Producing Artistic Director Ted Pappas and moderated by KDKA TV’s Lynne Hayes-Freeland, an open mic will be available for audience participation. Panelists include Heather Starr Fiedler, creator of the toy drive Play It Forward; Kristen Holloway, founder of Operation: Troop Appreciation; Thomas Hughes, volunteer with Assemble, a space for arts and technology; and Mac Howison of The Sprout Fund, which supports activities to enrich our region. The Town Hall Project is presented in conjunction with Good People, the second play in Pittsburgh Public Theater’s MADE IN AMERICA season. Good People, by David Lindsay-Abaire, runs through Dec. 9.  PITTSBURGH, PA -- Brian Brown unveils a series of new, primarily figurative paintings that are painstakingly detailed using traditional oil painting techniques. His imagery is inspired by dreams, memories, popular culture and pure unabashed imagination.

Brian Brown attended Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and earned a distinguished award upon graduation. He earned an M.F.A. from Carnegie Mellon University in 2010. Since then, Brian Brown has exhibited his paintings in Pittsburgh at Fe Gallery, the Miller Gallery, and in Sewickley, PA, as well as in galleries in New York City. In 2011, in a project supported by the Sprout Fund, he created a mural on Commerce Street depicting the East Liberty community.

VIP Premiere of Stand Up Now Network TV Show

PITTSBURGH, PA - On Saturday April 21, 2012 the Stand Up Now Network and the Royal Tribe arts organization is presenting a VIP Premiere Screening of the S.U.N. TV Show’s first episode – part of a seasonal youth focused series designed to be educational and informational in the areas of Social Responsibility, Healthy Lifestyles, Youth Development, and Media Literacy. The event program time will begin 6pm sharp at “The Hide Out” Banquet Hall & Lounge at 45 Bates Street in Oakland Pgh PA

This event will be hosted by the Stand Up Now Show Team and Youth cast from the South Side, Hill District and many other areas in Southwestern Pennsylvania.

This historic occasion brings together very diverse, talented and exceptional youth from a range of sectors in the South Western region of Pennsylvania with professional executive representatives concerned with increasing youth participation in issues involving: Community Service, Environmental Stewardship, Sustainability & Entrepreneurship, Diversity, Violence, Poverty & Hunger, Rights & Justice, Education / Career Development, Family Support, Media Justice, and Arts & Entertainment. All adult professionals are welcome to participate. We are actively creating a broad network of mentors including independent media and other industry professionals. (This is not a youth event and adults are discouraged from bringing any unsupervised youth). We hope that all guests will make a $10 “minimum” free will offering. All support will be greatly appreciated. This activity is powered by the people and not funded by any state or federal funds.

All guests should arrive at 6pm sharp for the “Meet and Greet Reception”. At 7pm the “Film Episode” will be viewed. There will be a “Q & A” around 8pm followed by “Post-Entertainment” at 9pm by local unsigned area artists. Free Food & Desserts will be provided. A CHINESE AUCTION will be held throughout the evening. A Private Cash Bar will be available for the adults ($3 Specials All Evening). Dress code is Smart / Formal or “Sophisticated Funky Hipster”. Youth cast participants will be on hand to talk about their 2012 media project and their need for mentors in media and other professionals.

The S.U.N. TV Show is inspired from the Stand Up Now (SUN) project originally supported by the
Heinz Endowment and The Sprout Fund.

Those already slated to appear: City Council Officials, The Soul Pitt Media, Royal Tribe Music, The Stand Up Now Network (South Side, Hill District and North Side) other to be announced. All Are Welcome.


It is the hope of Royal Tribe Music (www.royaltribemusic.com) that the “Stand Up Now” All- Volunteer-Collective will encourage others to join us in this event, give back and add to our vision of forming an active network of diverse youth and concerned professionals to help kids have a voice and the opportunity to make a difference in the region where they live, learn, serve, work and play.
