SUMMER GALLERY CRAWL ANNOUNCED FOR
THE CULTURAL DISTRICT WITH EXTENDED HOURS

PITTSBURGH, PA: The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust announced the date and time for its July Gallery Crawl today. On Friday, July 12, 2013, from 5:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., the crawl will showcase a wide variety of thought provoking art exhibitions in downtown Pittsburgh’s Cultural District. Live bands, DJs, dance, comedy, and participatory activities are also part of the complimentary happenings during the crawl.
“Visitors can enjoy spending their summer evening in the Cultural District with over 30 event stops during the Gallery Crawl. Catch a free ride around the District on a Green Gears Pedicab! A few highlights include new exhibit openings at Wood Street Galleries, SPACE, 707 and 709 Penn Galleries. Music is a big part of the evening as well,” comments Darcy Kucenic, Director of Highmark First Night Pittsburgh & Manager of Education and Operations with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust.
Performing at Katz Plaza, The Amigos Band, hailing from New York City, blends unique harmonies from bluegrass to jazz to create their collaborative American music. In 2013, the Amigos were chosen to serve as American Cultural Ambassadors for the American Music Abroad program by the U.S. Department of State. Touring the U.S. for the first time, Muzička will perform traditional Czech folk music, outdoors at 8th Street and Penn Avenue. Flo Wilson and the Old School Band will have gallery crawl patrons dancing at the August Wilson Center.
After the Crawl, participants can attend one of these two ticketed events being produced by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust on that same evening, Cosmopolitan Pittsburgh at the Byham and Ryoji Ikeda’s test pattern-live set at the Trust Arts Education Center.

Ryoji Ikeda: data.tron | An audiovisual installation where each single pixel of visual image is calculated by mathematical principles, and composed from a combination of mathematics and the vast sea of data present in the world. Images are projected onto a large screen, heightening and intensifying the viewer’s perception and immersion.
3rd floor:
Title Town Soul & Funk Party | TITLE TOWN Soul & Funk Party's resident DJ Gordy G. spinning rare and underground soul, boogie, electro-funk and disco grooves.
SPACE

Crowdsourced | Guest curator: Robert Raczka
Participating artists: Renee Ickes, Tom Sarver, Barbara Weissberger, Gabe Felice, William Kofmehl III, Lori Hepner, Shaun Slifer, Maritza Mosquera, Corey Escoto, Casey Droege, Paul Zelevansky, and Kim Beck. Artists each create a large drawing directly on the walls of the gallery, which will be open to the public to both observe and suggest input into the artistic process. Music by DJ hi-top wrangler

Mary Mazziotti: Memento Mori | A set of billboards reminding the viewer that life can be short and its end unpredictable. The four “obituary” pieces show that the banalities of life continue after death, and poor Bobo is caught in an endless loop from which there is no escape from Mr. Death.
Cell Phone Disco | The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust invites you to go behind-the-scenes with this free, self-guided, cell phone audio tour of the Cultural District. Learn historical and fun facts about theaters, galleries, and properties throughout these 14 blocks that now serve as a national model for urban revitalization utilizing the arts as a catalyst.
InformationLab | A surface that visualizes the electromagnetic field of an active mobile phone. Several thousand lights illuminate when you make or receive a phone call in the vicinity of the installation.

Buffon: Argonaut of Our Natural World | An exhibition exploring the widespread influence of French naturalist, mathematician, cosmologist, and encyclopedic author, Georges Louis Leclerc (1707-88), otherwise known as Count de Buffon. On display will be several selections from his magnum opus, Histoire Naturelle.
