Young Entrepreneurs Present Business Plans in Regional Competition

2013 George W. Tippins Regional Business Plan Competition

After several rounds of pitching business ideas to a variety of volunteer judges, the 28 competitors in this year event narrowed down to the top three (3) finalists in two divisions:

The Up-Start Division ---for young people in the early stage of developing and forming their business concept (generally in our introduction level program).  Products and services are in “prototype” development, relying greatly upon preliminary feedback from potential consumers regarding quality, value and pricing.

The Start-Up Division—for young owners who have actually started their enterprise and have a year or more of direct experience with consumer sales, revenue generation and management.

The three finalists presented their business plans and pitched judges in their respective division’s final round on June 6, 2013 at the Rivers Club

The outcome is as follows:


Up-Start Division
First place finalist:    Derica Sanchez, Founder of DERI.
The business creates custom designed dog collars.  Derica is part of Entrepreneuring Youth’s program at Urban Pathways Charter School where she is  completing 10th grade.

Start Up Division
First place finalists is Megan Boboige,  Founder of Meg’s Photo Booth
The business sells Meg’s photographs printed in high resolution on canvas.  Meg is part of Entrepreneuring Youth’s program in Beaver County delivered through a partnership with the Franklin Center and the Community College of Beaver County.  Meg is completing the 11th grade at Moon Area High School.

Musical Kids Competition Finalists


MEDIA ADVISORY

WHO:             15 finalists for Classical WQED-FM 89.3’s Musical Kids Competition.

WHAT:          Finalists will be recorded performing with his/her instrument or singing in the WQED Fred Rogers Studio and will be available for photos and interviews.

WHEN:          Friday, March 22, 2013 3 – 7:30 p.m.

WHY:             Recordings of finalists will be put online at www.wqed.org/musicalkids April 4 - 26 for the public to vote for their favorite Musical Kid. Public votes will decide one of six winners. The remaining five winners will be chosen by a judging panel.
